Giclée (/ʒiːˈkleɪ/ zhee-KLAY) is a neologism coined in 1991 by printmaker Jack Duganne for fine art digital prints made on inkjet printers. The name originally applied to fine art prints created on a modified Iris printer in a process invented in the late 1980s. It has since been used loosely to mean any fine-art, most of the times archival, print printed by inkjet. It is often used by artists, galleries etc. to suggest high quality printing. Our giclée prints are made using dyes or fade-resistant, archival inks (pigment-based), and archival substrates primarily produced on Canon, Epson, HP and other large-format printers. These printers use the CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black) color process as a base with additional color cartridges for smoother gradient transitions (such as light magenta, light cyan, light and very light gray), up to 12 different inks to achieve high fidelity reproductions and a larger color gamut, including the matt black effect of gouache, for example.

This print is the faithful reproduction of a charcoal drawing of David Bowie right in the middle of his 1975 snowstorm, wearing a tuxedo. Using charcoal as a malleable medium to produce 'special effects', this very expressive drawing conveys at once the emotional maelstrom and the amazing creative vortex Bowie managed to make around himself at that time. And wasn't he beautiful, even when in a right mess?
